Hi! I’m Joyce, but you can call me Joy.

Like many millennials, my love of books started with Scholastic Book Fairs, Goosebumps book collections, and Pizza Hut book reports. Reading and writing helped me get through some really difficult times.

I turned to books and blogging to help me navigate one of the most stressful yet exhilarating moments of my life— coming out as a lesbian. The online community I found introduced me to Black sapphic books and those stories helped me feel seen and led me on a journey of self discovery. I started The Book Lovhers Club in hopes of creating the representation and community I needed back then.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Media and a Master’s in Relational Communication, this podcast is an opportunity for me to merge my expertise in communication and passion for education with my love of romance books. Now that I’m married, I see the potential in using these stories to help us curate the love life of our dreams.

Some may think I’m delusional but I think it’s aspirational to want a happily ever after. To seek and expect a happily ever after as a Black queer person is an act of resistance.

Thank you for joining me on this journey of turning pages into real life lessons.
